Julie Frith has always had an admiration for Alexander Calder and his art mobiles and paintings. After personally viewing his work in museums and airports around the world as a young child, Frith was intrigued by his balance of shapes and design.
Frith started making mobiles in the early 1980’s for fun. She learned to make her own style of mobile art working with a plastic medium that was light in weight, colorful and very durable. While Calder made his mobiles with metals, Frith felt as a woman metal was too heavy for her to manipulate.
About baby mobiles: To me as a parent, Frith felt that art is important to experience as a baby. It not only opens their imaginations earlier, but activates stimulation of thought.
Making mobiles makes Frith happy, and she hopes you get this uplifting spirit too!
