It is truly the decision of the expectant parents on whether they would like their shower to be co-ed. Some men feel as though they need to be an active participant in everything that the expectant mother is going through. Some do it for support reasons. A baby shower can be great either way. I recently attended a co-ed shower. While the women were playing the traditional baby shower games, the men were in another room playing their own game...Texas Hold 'Em!! This way, the men at didn't have to play games that involved eating baby food and smelling "dirty" diapers (chocolate), yet the men were able to be involved in the gift giving and the celebration. It was interesting!

i had a co-ed, all friends and family celebration before our daughter was born and loved it. it sounds like you've been to too many bad ones... we had an amazing time with all the people that we surround ourselves with, and in turn surround our baby with.
i should specify, though, that i absolutely hate shower games like the candy bar game, or the "how much toilet paper does it take to go around her belly" game, etc. we had no games at our party.
i should also specify that i think a southern dress-up shower like the one in your post would be so fun, too!

I used to be very much in favor of coed showers--after all, the father is likely to be just as involved in the raising of the baby.

Now I think that women-only showers are preferable. A shower is a wonderful forum for mothers to share their experiences and support the mother-to-be in practical matters. I am convinced that it's uncomfortable for a male friend to have sit through a graphic discussion of remedies for breastfeeding problems.

Finally, if I am lucky enough to have friends throw me a shower I will be gracious, but... please no games and definitely not the candy bar in the diaper game.
