Is Your House Messy in the Dark?

I came across this blog post - Clutter War: Attack of the Giant Baby  - and it brings to mind a lot of our own household struggles to fight the battle of clutter.  Before our baby, my wife and I had our own clutter, now we have baby clutter.  Look around your house and assess your own situation.

Sometimes to really get a sense of the landscape, change your perspective and stand up on a chair and look around the room (like Robin Williams did in Seize the Day).  Better yet, walk around the house at night in the dark - I recently discovered if you can tell your house is a mess in the dark, then you really have issues with clutter and too much stuff.

Face it - is this familiar in your household?

Oh my, the stuff. The baby stuff. Everywhere. Means of conveyance, swingy seat, Bumbo, squeaky toys, fuzzy toys, toys for biting and bending, jammies, jackets, socks that do and don’t look like shoes, amusing hats, blankets, books, rattles, pacifiers, cleaning supplies, extra diapers — plus of course, there’s the raw tonnage of stuff belonging to the caretaking adults that has been displaced or disused as a result of the occupying baby’s needs. It is a scene, man, I can assure you.

For me, I'm inspired to purge a lot of our stuff, and begin really asking  "do we need that" before actually buying it.  That's why I avoid going to BabiesRUs because I'm convinced that I don't need half the stuff in that place.  But that's a whole other story.

Start your own clutter war today with Attack of the Giant Baby and It's All Too Much: An Easy Plan for Living a Richer Life with Less Stuff.  It's good to know that I'm not alone in this battle.

Control vs Escape T-shirt

If you're a computer nerd, this t-shirt design called Fugitive makes perfect sense, however, for a parent, this might have a deeper philosophical meaning.

Everything Your Mom Would Say

Maybe this video is old news for you. YouTube shows this video has been viewed over 5.9 million times, but I'm just seeing it now. What is it? It's comedian Anita Renfroe singing all the cliche quotes a mom will say in 24 hours put to William Tell's Overture. Hope you get a chuckle out of it like I did - even if you've seen it before. My daughter is just over 6 months old now, so it'll be a few years before I hear my wife's version.

Halloween Scenes from Around the U.S.

Looking for a special Halloween event to treat the kids and yourself?  Check out MSN's Halloween Events listing creepy-themed places and things-to-do from over 28 cities around the country.  Austin's House of Torment, the Corn Maze at Denver's Botanical Garden, and The Darkness Haunted Warehouse attraction in St. Louis sound like winners to me.

Nina and Tom Offers The Formula for MOM

24.7.365 Equal MomThere are lots of ways to define "mom", but this is the first time I've seen it summarized as a simple straight-forward mathematical equation.  Any further questions?  I hope not.

Kids, Crocs, and Escalators = Bad Mix

It appears that Croc-wearing kids have been prone to accidents on escalators in incidents reported from around the world.  Though records of specific shoe brands are not kept, increasing incidents in malls and metro stations with the soft-souled Crocs and young children are being noticed.

The reports of serious injuries have all involved young children. Crocs are commonly worn by children as young as 2. The company introduced shoes in its smallest size, 4/5, this past spring.

During the past two years, so-called "shoe entrapments" in the Washington subway have gone from being relatively rare to happening four or five times a week in the summer, though none has caused serious injuries, said Dave Lacosse, who oversees the subway's 588 escalators, the most of any U.S. transit system.
I suspect with these reports and despite their current popularity, parents will be reconsidering including Crocs in their children's shoe wardrobe or forbid wearing them when going anywhere with an escalator.
