It appears that Croc-wearing kids have been prone to accidents on escalators in incidents reported from around the world. Though records of specific shoe brands are not kept, increasing incidents in malls and metro stations with the soft-souled Crocs and young children are being noticed.
The reports of serious injuries have all involved young children. Crocs are
commonly worn by children as young as 2. The company introduced shoes in its
smallest size, 4/5, this past spring.During the past two years, so-called “shoe entrapments” in the Washington subway
have gone from being relatively rare to happening four or five times a week in
the summer, though none has caused serious injuries, said Dave Lacosse, who
oversees the subway’s 588 escalators, the most of any U.S. transit system.
I suspect with these reports and despite their current popularity, parents will be reconsidering including Crocs in their children’s shoe wardrobe or forbid wearing them when going anywhere with an escalator.
