More baby design news from ICFF…
ICFF brought on the debut of two high profile highchairs – Boon’s Flair highchair (pictured above) and Fleurville’s Calla Chair (below) designed by Yves Behar. After hearing so much about both chairs, it was good to see both prototypes (production is still a few months away) firsthand. Flair might be a bit more practical in looks and pricing ($199-299), while Calla definitely makes a dramatic visual statement to go with its projected $850 price point.
The Calla Chair made its rounds in NY – shown above on display at the ICFF show and again for a launch party at children’s design boutique Yoya in the Meatpacking District.
Meanwhile, Mozzee, the people behind bringing the Nest highchair from Australia to the US showed Candy Cube, a new childrens stool made of colorful EVA foam sheets that can be taken apart and reassembled easily to create new color patterns.
dwellbaby continues to build a strong product line and it showed in a beautiful nursery vignette they put together for ICFF. In working with NettoCollection, their bedding designs certainly shine. At the show, they debuted some new products (available this fall) – a line of stuffed animals and alphabet blocks made from their bedding prints and a new woven area rug.
Aside from the show, we took the opportunity to visit Giggle at their Lexington Avenue location, and it was worth seeing how a successful baby retailer makes parents feel at ease. Each store section focused on different baby tasks such as Feeding, Bathing, Gear, and so on – making shopping for busy parents alot easier.
Finally, whenever I’m in NY, I always take time to visit the rooftop garden at the Metropolitan Museum. For first time NY visitors, this is a spot that doesn’t appear on many lists of top places to see but it’s one of my top recommendations. The view across Central Park to all the million dollar apartments that border it and then to the skyline beyond is uniquely New York.
