CA Boom 4 Recap: What’s Fresh in Modern Parenting

Modern Parenting @ CA Boom 4
Last weekend, Coochicoos sponsored the Modern Parenting section at CA Boom 4, an annual design show that takes place every spring in Santa Monica, California.  One of the great things about CA Boom is that it's a consumer show that attracts a young, hip, design-savvy crowd.  In addition to the exhibitors in Modern Parenting this year, Coochicoos selected eight standout examples of the modern parenting market for its exhibit "What's Fresh in Modern Parenting".

Fine furniture designer Laura Rittenhouse showed a handmade crib with solid silver inlays that she originally designed for her own son. Design collective Binth, known for its original and provocative art prints, was represented by a screen-printed alphabet poster. Wallter was invited to bring their wood-based, paintable wall applications, which are a parent-friendly alternative to taking a crayon to the walls. Argington showed their Fundy Play Table, a storage solution and play surface with dry-erase and chalkboard tops. Monte Design was represented by their Luca Glider that would not be out of place next to a Le Corbusier sofa. Ooba was invited to bring their bassinet from its Nest collection that is made of bent plywood and chrome metal and can be placed next to the parent’s bed if desired. Orbit Baby’s Infant Stroller System is made of aerospace-grade aluminum and can be customized with a variety of options, including a toddler seat to extend the life of the stroller. From Celery Furniture, Coochicoos chose a child’s rocking chair as well as a “rocking pony” (a small rocking horse) from its Lullaboo line, both of which have mortise and tenon joinery to allow for easy assembly without any complicated tools or hardware. The high-end furniture company Vitra was invited to bring its “Algue” line of wall treatments that mimic the organic shapes of seaweed. And an area rug by Nurseryworks will be underfoot at the booth.
