Family of Four in 640 Square Feet

Family of Four in 640 Feet

One of the entries in Apartment Therapy's Small Cool contest is a "two bedroom" New York City studio apartment where a family of four has deftly figured out how to live.  Granted the two bedrooms is actually the kid's loft where their pre-schooler and baby sleep and a cozy cubby where mom and dad sleep on a queen-size bed with storage and tv in the walls.  To pull it all off, they studied lots of books on boat design and got advice from friends who live part-time in boats and RV's.  See the slideshow here.

Everything Orange for Your Kid's Room

Orange Color Palette for Kid's Rooms

When we started Coochicoos, one of our driving mottos was "anything but pink or blue", and apparently the bloggers at Remodlista believe so too with a great selection of furniture and accessories for kids' rooms all in orange.

Modern Nursery for Twins

Design blogger, Holly of decor8, uncovered this gem of a nursery and interviews the expectant parents of twins, Francis and Tracy Harvey-Chan.  Missing a crib?...one crib will remain packed up until the twins are too big to share.

A Science Lab for a Nursery

edison2.jpgEngineers Paul and Pam Costa took three well-planned steps in welcoming their new baby boy into their lives.  First, they named their son Edison - an uncommon historically-linked creative name that was also easy to remember.  Second, to match the name Edison, they designed a nursery with a science theme complete with a bare vintage-style light bulb, chalk scribbled science formulas, and back-lit laboratory beakers.  For their finishing touch, Paul had found an original Cray-1 computer on eBay after years of searching, and turned into a seating area in one corner of the nursery.

edison3.jpgFrom inventor name, to themed design, to supercomputer furniture, Edison has one cool nursery.

Nursery Design Inspiration: Celebrity Nurseries by Wendy Bellissimo

Brooke Shields' Nursery by Wendy Bellissimo

While Coochicoos is a fan of modern nurseries, we will still applaud nursery designs that are well done.  For more traditional nurseries with a contemporary aesthetic, it's worth checking out Wendy Bellissimo's work.  While you might be familiar with her nursery decor product line at BabiesRUs, see how she puts it all together in her celebrity portfolio.

And whether you're a dedicated modernist or not, you have to love her philosophy on creating a child's room - "the ultimate room for a child is to attain the goal of a calming yet inspiring environment.”

Image above is Wendy's design for Brooke Shields' first nursery.  Alex Kingston's baby nursery is below.
