Treehugger: The Tofu Bear: Bean Curd's Best Ambassador
February 28, 2006

[via Treehugger.com] My brother's not into tofu. Neither is Oprah. But there's one thing I know for sure: both of them would love a soft, cuddly bear made from it. The Tofu Bear's fabric, called SOYSILK(R), is made from waste produced during the food's processing. Who wouldn't trade in synthetic petroleum-based bears for some nontoxic cashmere-like softness? The fill is still a standard, hypoallergenic variety, but great strides are being made to make the little buddies eco inside and out. Soon the Tofu Bear will be on your list of favorite things. $39.

I purchased two bears and the quality is horrible. One bear was for my baby (website said this bear was great for young children), so I washed it before giving it to him. When I pulled it out of the washer the bear was torn in four areas. I then looked at the unwashed bear and it too was falling apart in two spots. The website also says this bear is 100% SOYSILK fiber, which is not true. The inside of the bear is synthetic fiber fill. I contacted the company about a return they refused to refund my money, but said they would replace the bear if I paid for the shipping.Posted by: kim | September 4, 2008 7:04 PM
